Bad Samaritan

One of the famous Chinese ‘Good Samaritan’ cases, the case of Peng Yu (who was prosecuted for aiding an elderly woman) suffered a dramatic twist, with the shocking disclosure of previously confidential documents. On January 16, the state-owned news magazine Oriental Weekly revealed some new information. Turns out, Peng Yu not only confessed to knocking over that supposedly greedy granny in 2006, but he actively solicited the local news media and online forum moderators to promote him as a “martyred Good Samaritan”…
